BT turns up broadband speed dial

fibre-optic-bbBT is to launch a fibre optic service that will deliver speeds of up to 300Mbps (megabits per second) to some UK homes by spring next year.

The service is only likely to be made available to a minority of people with others promised speed boosts of up to 80Mbps.

The UK government welcomed the news.

TalkTalk and Tiscali UK fined £3m by Ofcom

Talk talk fined £3m

TalkTalk and its Tiscali UK subsidiary have been fined £3m for incorrectly billing more than 65,000 customers for services they had not received.

The largest fine regulator Ofcom has given to a telecoms firm, it follows an investigation into the two businesses that started in July 2010 as a result of more than 1,000 complaints.  Ofcom said the fine reflected “the seriousness” of their actions. [Read more...]

 

Phishers Target your Google AdWords Account

Google AdwordsCybercrooks have launched a “Google AdWords” phishing campaign in an attempt to trick marks into handing over sensitive login credentials to a bogus, newly registered, website.

Spam messages promoting the ruse falsely claim that a recipient’s campaign has been stopped and they need to login to their “Adwords account” in order to reactivate it. The widely distributed spam messages link to a realistic replica of the Google AdWords page, net security firm Sophos warns. [Read more...]

 

Virgin Media Broadband Outtages

Virgin Media isVirgin Media Logo asking its broadband customers to be patient while the company attempts to fix what it has described as an “intermittent routing issue” on its network.

The telco has had problems with its service since yesterday, according to various readers who have contacted their forums.
