Samsung profits jump as smartphone sales outstrip Apple

samsung_2204640cSamsung reported record first-quarter profits boosted by a surge in sales of its Galaxy smartphones as it outsold Apple’s iPhone and became the world’s top mobile phone maker.

Net profit nearly doubled to 5.05 trillion won (£2.76bn) for the three months to the end of March, with more than 70% of Samsung Electronics’ operating profit coming from its mobile businesses.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus launches in UK on November 17

Samsung-Galaxy-NexusThe third Google handset is the first to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which adds face recognition unlocking and Google+ integration.

Samsung will launch the third Google handset, the Galaxy Nexus, in the UK on November 17.

The Galaxy Nexus features a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, a 1.2GHz dual core processor and a five mega-pixel camera. It is 8.94mm thick, with a 4.29mm bezel around the screen.

Samsung Galaxy S 2The original Galaxy S was a fairly impressive device, but this latest reboot takes things to another level, with a dual core processor, AMOLED screen, 8-megapixel camera, over-the-air data syncing and much more, all squeezed into a shockingly slim case.

Samsung teams up with Armani on limited edition Galaxy S

This handsome handset is to become available in January 2011.

Samsung and Giorgio Armani have announced a partnership to create a limited edition Samsung Galaxy S handset.

The phone will be exclusively available to Phones 4U in the UK in January 2011, but will also be available for purchase from Giorgio Armani boutiques at the same time.

Special additional features such as exclusive ringtones, fonts and on/off animation will be available on the handset.
