Samsung has released a new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S3, including voice control, wireless beaming of content and exclusive apps, as it aims to consolidate its position at the top of the mobile sector.
A 4.8in screen on phone which adds voice controls and high-speed ‘beaming’ aims to cement Samsung’s position in world smartphone and Google Android markets.
Samsung reported record first-quarter profits boosted by a surge in sales of its Galaxy smartphones as it outsold Apple’s iPhone and became the world’s top mobile phone maker.
Net profit nearly doubled to 5.05 trillion won (£2.76bn) for the three months to the end of March, with more than 70% of Samsung Electronics’ operating profit coming from its mobile businesses.
Samsung has announced it has sold 300 million mobile phones this year, its highest level of sales over 12 months.
The third Google handset is the first to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which adds face recognition unlocking and Google+ integration.
Samsung will launch the third Google handset, the Galaxy Nexus, in the UK on November 17.
The Galaxy Nexus features a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, a 1.2GHz dual core processor and a five mega-pixel camera. It is 8.94mm thick, with a 4.29mm bezel around the screen.

Galaxy smartphones help manufacturer’s mobile division hit record profit and revenues to overtake Apple as world’s largest mobile firm by revenue
Samsung mobile division recorded revenues of £8.37 billion in its third quarter ending September 30, an increase of 39 per cent on the same period a year ago, to overtake Apple as the world’s largest mobile maker by revenue.
It seems that Samsung has decided to let us in on all its secrets ahead of the IFA trade show, held in Berlin September 2-7. After LTE versions of Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 8.9, the company announced a trio of Bada-powered handsets: Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y.

Samsung has announced a white version of its Galaxy S II Android smartphone. Lucky that Jobs & Co. don’t have a patent on this particular colour or the move could be lengthen the love lost litigation list with Apple.
The original Galaxy S was a fairly impressive device, but this latest reboot takes things to another level, with a dual core processor, AMOLED screen, 8-megapixel camera, over-the-air data syncing and much more, all squeezed into a shockingly slim case.
At 125x66x8.5mm this is just about the thinnest high-end smartphone we’ve ever come across — and it feels good. At just 115g it’s very light too, though that’s due in part to the very thin back panel, which feels distinctly non-sturdy. [Read more...]
This handsome handset is to become available in January 2011.
Samsung and Giorgio Armani have announced a partnership to create a limited edition Samsung Galaxy S handset.
The phone will be exclusively available to Phones 4U in the UK in January 2011, but will also be available for purchase from Giorgio Armani boutiques at the same time.
Special additional features such as exclusive ringtones, fonts and on/off animation will be available on the handset.
